At Holy Cross we strive to demonstrate the love of Christ by serving those most in need in our community. Strong feelings of fellowship and unity are developed as we work as a congregation in the service of our Lord to provide for the poor. Those who are witness to the power of God’s love at work through them as they do His work are often revitalized in their own personal faith.

"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me"     (Matthew 25: 35-36)

Activities

  • HALOS (Helping and Lending Outreach Support) – Holy Cross parishioner Eve Edwards began this county-wide ministry of churches adopting a DSS case manager to help provide for the unmet needs of children in foster care or under child protective services. Holy Cross was the first to officially adopt a DSS case manager. We assist our case manager with special needs of neglected children.

  • Homeless Shelter Dinner – The first Wednesday every other month Holy Cross hosts dinner in the Men’s Shelter at Crisis Ministries in downtown Charleston. Sign-up sheets are posted prior to each serving date.

  • Gleaning - In the spring and summer months, Holy Cross participates in gleaning projects sponsored by the Clemson Extention Service. Gleaners rescue unwanted produce left in the fields after harvest. This perfectly good food is taken to soup kitchens and other feeding agencies.

  • Habitat For Humanity - Holy Cross is highly involved with the East Cooper Habitat Humanity Project, helping to raise funds and build new houses for low income residents of our area.

  • East Cooper Community Outreach - Several times a year we sponsor canned food drives for ECCO’s food pantry.

  • Haitian American Partnership Program - Holy Cross is a member of HAPPi and as such has an adopted Episcopal mission church on the island of la Gonave, Haiti. We provide financial support & send parishioners there as part of a ministry of presence.

  • Adopted Family - We have an adopted family in Awendaw with a large number of children. We help with food, clothing, school supplies and other needs of the family as they arise.

  • Christmas Angel Tree - Every Christmas we sponsor an angel tree which provides toys for the children of our adopted family in Awendaw as well as some of the children in the HALOS program.

The Outreach Committee meets the second Monday every month at 6:00p.m. in the Parish Hall. If you feel called to help us in any of our outhreach ministries, we encourage you to attend. We can always use project coordinators, fundraisers, leaders and all kinds of workers!

...our members will be trained and empowered to be leaders, care-givers, and nurturers.
